Discovering the Danube with Avalon Waterways

My Avalon Waterways cruise along the Danube was an unforgettable mix of history, culture, beautiful scenery, and incredible food. From the moment we arrived onboard in Budapest, Avalon made the experience feel special with thoughtful touches, comfortable accommodations, and amazing service throughout the journey.

Budapest was vibrant and full of energy. One of my favourite experiences was a “Taste of Budapest” tour through the city market, where we sampled traditional Hungarian foods, local wines, goulash soup, and delicious strudel. I also brought home several varieties of Hungarian paprika as the perfect souvenir.

Bratislava completely charmed me with its old-world streets, carved historic doors, and the famous Čumil statue peeking out of a manhole. We sampled local pastries and wine while learning about the city’s rich history from our guide.

Vienna was elegant and beautiful, with incredible architecture, bike-friendly streets, and a wonderful evening at the Opera House featuring classical music, ballet, and opera performances.

One of my favourite stops was Krems, a small Austrian town that felt warm, welcoming, and full of character. Wandering the quiet cobblestone streets and historic buildings felt like stepping back in time.

Throughout the trip, I loved how easy river cruising makes European travel. Unpacking once while waking up in a new destination each day is such a relaxing and immersive way to explore Europe. Between the stunning scenery, charming towns, local experiences, and wonderful company, this Danube journey was truly one to remember.
